◦Lucile Cardon Reading was born August 16, 1909 in Logan, UT.
◦She was the daughter of Louis Samuel Cardon and Rebecca Ann Ballard.
◦She had seven brothers and sisters.
◦She graduated from Logan High School and Utah State University.
◦She was married to Keith Reading and the mother of two sons, James and Don.
◦She served on many civic, PTA and church councils. These included the South Davis Welfare Council, the Utah State Federation of Women’s Clubs, the Utah Division of the American Cancer Society, and the Board of Trustees of Primary Children’s Hospital.
◦She owned and operated a children’s store, The Mother Goose Shop, for over 20 years in Bountiful, UT.
◦She was the managing editor of The Children’s Friend magazine from its inception in 1971 until her death March 22, 1982.
◦She published many stories and books about and for children.
◦She was one of the first women elected to serve on the school board for Davis District.
◦At the time of her death, Lucile Reading was serving her third term as president of the Davis County Board of Education.
◦Lucile C. Reading was well known in Centerville for her love of children and reading.
◦The “Lucile C. Reading Scholarship for Writers of Children's Literature” is offered at Utah State University in her honor.
