Meet Mr. Hughes
I was born in Salt Lake City and raised in Taylorsville, UT. I graduated from West Jordan High School in 1988, earned my Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education from Weber State University, and completed my Master's Degree in Educational Technology from Utah State University. In August 2007, I completed the requirements for my Administrative/Supervisory Endorsement at USU.
While attending Weber State University, I met my wife who was also an education major. Lisa grew up in Clinton, Utah. We raised our three children in Layton, UT. Connor is 25 years old and recently graduated from Weber State University with a Bachelor's Degree in Health Care Administration. Connor married the love of his life, Olivia, in January 2019. They currently live in Bountiful. Olivia is a registered nurse. Our daughter, Katelyn, is 22. She lived in the Philippines until May 2019. Kate enjoys soccer, photography and movie making. She is attending Weber State and majoring in Social Work, with a long-term goal to become a School Counselor. Our youngest child is a son named Landon. He is 18 and graduated from Layton High School in 2021. Landon loves to play soccer, basketball and video games. Landon will carry on the family tradition by attending Weber State University.
I am honored to be the principal of Lucile C. Reading Elementary School. This will be my 6th year at this wonderful school where I hope to continue the great things happening every day. Prior to working at Reading, I served as principal of Columbia Elementary in Kaysville for six years and was an elementary administrative intern at three wonderful Davis District School for four years. My teaching background includes all grades from 3rd to 6th during my twelve years in the classroom. I taught at Riverside Elementary in Jordan School District for two years, Hannah Holbrook Elementary in Bountiful for five years and Kaysville Elementary for five years. I loved teaching school, especially my time in fourth grade. It has been a fun and challenging change for me to move to my administrative role. I am grateful for the wonderful faculty members at Reading Elementary who prioritize learning and meeting students' social and emotional needs.
In my spare time, I love to relax with my family, read (especially children’s books) and travel. Our family's favorite vacation spots (so far) have been Yellowstone Park, the Oregon coast, the Redwoods, Mount Rushmore and a trip to Hawaii with extended family. Our most recent adventure was a trip to San Diego where I learned to ride a Segway and enjoyed the good Mexican food in Old Town.
It is privilege to be an elementary school principal. Please don't hesitate to contact me if you have questions or concerns about our school.
