Community Council

Welcome to the Community Council of Lucile C. Reading Elementary!

The purpose of the community council is to involve parents in decision making at the school level.  Elected parents represent the parents of the school and participate in developing plans for improving the school, make decisions on how to best expend School LAND Trust Program monies, and increase public awareness of school trust lands and related policies. Reading Elementary received $61,546.59 for the 2023-2024 school year.

Serving on the School Community Council

Serving on our School Community Council is a wonderful way for parents and teachers to collaborate and help improve academic performance at our school. The school receives an annual dividend from School Trust Lands. Our council decides how these funds will be used. The council reviews and prepares other academic plans for our students each year. Plans are reviewed for final approval by the District School Board. Councils also act in an advisory capacity to school and school district administration.

Qualifications

Every public school in Utah has a School Community Council. The councils are made up of school employees who are elected by employees and parents who are elected by parents of students attending the school. Membership terms are for two years. Elections are held at the beginning of each school year. Parent members must have a student attending the school at least one of the two years of their term of service. Employees must be employed by the school district at the school.

This year we received two applications to serve on the School Community Council, because the number of applicants was equal to or less than the number of openings, we will not be holding an election.

Val McQuiston and Kara Bankhead were elected by acclamation. We welcome them to the council. Thank you to those who are continuing to serve this year. We look forward to a great year here at Reading.
